Greetings From The iPad

So the day has finally come. The iPad has arrived. Throughout the morning I wouldn’t say I was overly excited but I was waiting around wondering how I would react to the UPS man’s knock at my door.
The tracking showed that it arrived in San Antonio early this morning but after 8:30am there seemed to be no progress. Poor little guy was just sitting there waiting to be delivered to his home :) After my wife reminded me that under normal circumstances our neighborhood UPS guy didn’t show up until the late evening I had resigned to the fact that the device was not going to be here before then.
I had decided during the week that I wasn’t going to move from my house until the device had arrived but after thinking about it I figured a quick trip down to the post office to send out some bills at 1:30 in the afternoon wouldn’t jeopardize me not being here when the UPS guy showed up. Boy was I wrong. Doesn’t it always happen that way?
I got back from my 5 minute trip to find the UPS man getting into his truck about to leave! I immediately hung up whoever I was on the phone with and leapt out of car. I asked, like a kid asking Santa, “Did you deliver it? Did you deliver it?”. The UPS guy smiled and wryly said “Yeah I did but the women inside are going to say I didn’t. Good luck getting it.” I smiled with excited anticipation. It was finally here.
Long story short: it’s here, it’s great and I love it. It of course has some faults that I believe will be overcome eventually. For instance Google Reader is currently unusable for me, and I believe several web apps will show some growing pains with it but will rectify in time. Landscape typing isn’t so great but portrait is find with me so far (this whole post is being done on the WordPress for iPad app). The one unforgivable fault that I think apple should have put more work into is the abysmal look of iPhone apps when they are double pixeled. Absolutely horrible. They are too ugly to look at to even run.
Other than that it’s a gorgeous device. The apps I’ve used so far are beautiful to look at and easy to use. I think Apple has absolutely done it again and I think the future of mobile computing is brighter than it has ever been. I am so excited to be part of this industry at this time.
Cheers to the future and to the iPad.
